I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

This is a great conversation starter. I'm sure a lot of people judge me when they see my clothes stitched up with thread that doesn't match the fabric. Personally, I like advertising that I've repaired my clothes. It sends a message that I value the environment and I save money for what actually matters.

Honestly, you sound a lot like my husband. You are lovable. Just don't forget to talk to a therapist or psychiatrist when you need one, and you will definitely need one if you have kids. Also, take a human development course before having kids. Remember that humans are a social species, and asking for help when you need it is a responsible thing to do.

The past tense of lie (not the telling of an untruth, but to recline) is lay. Lay is the present tense of lay. Lay and lie are pretty confusing verbs, and I still look them up from time to time to make sure I'm using the right version.

This is a cute start. I'd argue that having squishy skin is better for getting hit. If you're a rock, you'd shatter. Of course, it depends on how hard we get hit, but usually we just get a little bruise that heals.
