I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

I've certainly felt my fair share of pain from love. Did you know it's possible to orgasm from crying? Human bodies are so strange.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!

This is a fun take on the isekai genre. It strikes me as a parody on how these things usually go.

Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

I needed this. My husband has been obsessed with my hair lately, and there are other things I'd rather do with my time because I don't get much time to myself while taking care of our toddler. It's a struggle to floss and brush my teeth every day, and I've got to brush the kid's teeth and hair on top of that.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!

This is a great start! I recommend using quotation marks to format your dialogue. Alternatively, you could use a colon before someone speaks, as seen in script format for plays.

You've painted a vivid picture with your words. Thanks for sharing these deeply personal thoughts. Writing about these things is a great way to process your feelings and let others who have had similar experiences know they are not alone.

Review of Know Yourself
Review by K5Rakitan
Rated: 13+ | (5.0)
Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

This is beautiful! I was the student who carried scantrons and blue books at all times. I stayed on top of my reading and assignments so I wouldn't have to panic at the last minute. Also, I loved learning for the sake of learning. I was annoyed with the few professors who took attendance because that meant the lecture hall would be crowded and noisy. I was never afraid of tests, merely annoyed by them.

My middle school and high school gave out organizational notebooks every year, and I grew accustomed to using them. They gave us one for free my first year of university, but I had to buy it at the bookstore every year after that. These days, I get a 2-year planner at the dollar store as needed. These days, I mostly write down when my son poops to make sure he's not constipated and vaccine appointments.

There is also beauty in admitting that we don't know what tomorrow will bring and planning for flexibility. I plan on breastfeeding my son until he's at least 3 years old. I'd like to keep it up until he's 5 since our species evolved to breastfeed for 5 years, but I know that societal pressure might cause me to cave in.

I used to not be bothered by the lack of pockets in female clothing because I could keep wallet, keys, and phone in my purse, and I would never leave home without my purse. Now, my purse slips precariously off my shoulder when I am preventing my toddler from running into the street or otherwise restraining him from dangerous activities. I can use a jacket for pockets, but then I get too hot. I may need to switch to a backpack for the next few years, but the backpack is also a heat trap.

Happy writing, and I hope you enjoy it here!

Is this meant to be a test piece or a placeholder? I recommend drafting your story in a separate program such as MS Word, Open Office, or Google Docs and then copying and pasting it when you are ready to share it.

That was certainly an adventure. It felt like a dream. The part about the old man and innocent young girl felt too stereotypical for my taste.

Formatting tip: please start a new paragraph every time the speaker changes in dialogue. This is standard practice in fiction and helps make the piece easier to read.

This makes a lot of sense. My dad was recently telling me about a new scientific finding about how we need 400 repetitions to form a new neural connection without play but merely 10 repetitions with play.

If you or someone you know needs therapy, one way to get it is to reach out to your school counselor. If they are not too busy, they can listen. If they are too busy, they can refer you to another resource.

As an adult, if you don't have enough money for therapy, you can contact your local social services offices. I've called a mental health crisis line. It's not JUST for people who are suicidal. You can talk to them about anything you are going through.
