I'm the lead editor for a small independent press, but I am on maternity leave for the next several years and thus not accepting submissions. I'll tell you my professional opinion on first chapters or short pieces and whether I would have accepted it or rejected it if I was looking for work. I've dealt most with controversial speculative fiction, and I'm most interested in polyamory a.k.a consensual non-monogamy.

Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

This was an entertaining piece. I found the idea of pizza and a gift basket hilarious in this futuristic setting. I'd like to imagine a world where corporate BS is a thing of the past, but who are we kidding?

“I've found out why people laugh. They laugh because it hurts so much . . . because it's the only thing that'll make it stop hurting.”

I've considered cutting my hair too, but my husband started braiding it when I was pregnant, and we've pretty much run with that ever since. Sometimes I take a bath with my son after my husband has gone to sleep and don't wind up getting it braided, but he'll always do it if he's up. Now that my son is walking and can even climb in and out of the bathtub on his own, there's no way I can take a bath/shower without him unless someone else is watching him, and why would I waste my alone time on a bath/shower when I'd much rather be at my computer? Also, I love the excuse to turn a regular bath into a bubble bath. I put bubbles on him and call him the Prince of Bubbles. You've got to be careful with bath products like bath bombs and stuff, though. Certain things can irritate a young one's skin.

Thanks for sharing this. This is a difficult topic to discuss, but it's important to raise awareness.

I've never been hit, but I've been psychologically abused, and the psychological abuse crossed the line into physical abuse through sleep deprivation when my ex-boyfriend kept me up all night yelling. Thankfully, my parents didn't hesitate to come pick me up when I told them I hadn't slept.

I used my internet browser to translate this to English, so I will not comment on the grammar. This strikes me as an intriguing concept, though I am still having difficulty understanding it.

Thanks for sharing this. My dad shared a similar article with me. I'm curious how I'm supposed to fall asleep when my stomach is screaming at me for food. I tried for two months, and the screaming of my stomach did not subside.

This is a good start. I got a little taste of what to expect from the story. However, since we are talking Hooters, it would be great to know the cup size.

Good to hear things are improving! My go-to breakfast is a hummus wrap with lettuce, tomato, and/or avocado, depending on what's available and ripe. I like getting hard avocados and waiting for them to ripen because the hard avocados tend to have fewer bruises than the ripe ones everyone has been squeezing at the store. Also, premade hummus can be expensive, so every other week, we cook up a pound of dry garbanzo beans and blend that with the other stuff. Hummus goes great on toast and crackers as well. When I was pregnant, I had gestational diabetes, so I just had carrots or bell pepper dipped in hummus for breakfast every day. One day, I had leftover butternut squash soup for breakfast, and that made my blood sugar too high, so after that, I didn't take risks with breakfast for the rest of my pregnancy.

Hello again!

That really sucks how you can get scammed looking for work. Some scammers have even used my company name, and we're not even hiring, so now we keep getting emails from people who smell something fishy, and we've set up an auto reply telling people not to sign anything.

As for sleep training, that's completely your choice. In many cultures, it's common for mothers to sleep with children even past the toddler stage.

Personally, my son is 21 months old, and I'll worry about getting him to sleep in his own bed when he's 4 years old.

I used my internet browser to translate this to English, so I will not comment on the grammar. This sounds like a very detestable, self-centered character. You've made her seem very realistic. I can think of someone I know who is very much like this.

Welcome! I stumbled upon your work through the “read a newbie” feature.

Thanks for sharing this. I'm also a mom, and it is indeed difficult even with help. My husband helps a little every day, but he's expressed that he often doesn't know how to help. He helps more now that our son is a toddler and they can toss balls back and forth and things like that, but when our son was a baby, Husband didn't know how to connect with our son as much. I sometimes send him Youtube videos of activities they can do together, and that seems to help motivate him. Here's a short video I recommend for now:

I know you may not be able to squeeze much reading into your life right now, but if you can, I highly recommend "Our Babies, Ourselves: How Biology and Culture Shape the Way We Parent" by Meredith Small.
